SPRINT RACING INFORMATION

YES, there is a new type of racing that will be hitting the ice in 2012!

A take off from the endurance two-way racing, this will be a short course of 800-1500m that is very similar to a go-kart track.  Course will be close to the oval track and will be run at the same time as oval racing.  We are hoping to attract new racers as it may be difficult to coordinate oval and sprint in the same day.  This is a new style of racing and we will be working out some of the details as we go along.  Classes are general to start out and as this discipline grows, so will the classes.  Then the ultimate goal would be in the future to run Sprint on Saturdays and Oval on Sundays, but for 2012, it is not feasible to do so.  So call up your friends and family and help us to introduce this new style and make is a SUCCESS!  A call to all mini roadracers, there is a special Thumper class just for you!

RULE ENFORCEMENT
The CMA rule book clearly states the use of certain equipment to lessen the likelihood of injury.  We are simply implementing these rules for our own good.  I don’t think any of us would sleep, knowing that someone got hurt and there was something that could have been done to prevent it.

In point form, this is what is required for next race.

•-         SNELL 2010 approved helmet or ECE 22-05

•-         Kill switch – tether (almost everyone was fantastic with this.  Keep up the good work!)

kill switch info from rule book.JPG

-         Remove your front brake lever for OVAL (motorcycles only).  Why?  The rule book sez so!

•-         Fenders.  Some great fabrication and welding shown, but still not compliant.  Please scroll down for picture examples.  If you don’t meet the standards, you don’t race.  Simple as that.

For bikes.

motorcycle fender from rule book.JPG

Fenders must be enclosed; minimal access to the tires and screws.  Can a hand easily fit in?  A foot?  A head?!!

For quads

atv fender from rule book.JPG

We understand the concern for wrap around portion of the fender.  We will accept the straight fender as long as it is as wide as the outside of the rear tires.

atv fender drawing.JPG

-         KNOW WHAT CLASSES YOU ARE ELIGIBLE TO RIDE IN.  There is some confusion as some classes have been reclassed and others are NEW.  We have a chart if you are unsure. 2010 ice class listing

•-         BE ON THE LINE ON TIME!  We change the schedule (and that happens sometimes), to try to accommodate all the riders.  We try to make sure that everyone gets to ride in all the classes that they possibly can.  Please check the board at the start line as to lineup and on-deck and be there on time.  Let’s face it…no one wants to make Siggy cranky or we’ll ALL pay the price!

Print off this information.  File includes race order.

FAQ
What equipment is required to race?
- Ice Racing Screws are available by Jim Titmus.  Don't wait until the last minute to order up your ice fenders.  Jim Titmus of Calgary is building fenders & tires.  Contact him ASAP!  The prototype only weighs 2lb 5oz.

Other builders; Marcel Fournier or the like are permitted, Two Way Tires are Permitted
What Class Should I race?
- First time on Ice racers should race at least 1 novice class to get a feel of things. You may catch on quickly and need to be bumped to intermediate the following race, or you may feel comfortable in Novice. Remember, in order to turn & hold your line you must use MORE gas!
How much is racing?
Pre Registration online is really important to help admin staff to speed up registration on race day.  Pre-registration does NOT require payment.  $40 first 1st class, $30 for additional classes. Remember everyone pays $5 at the gate.  It was too hard for gate staff to know who was riding and who wasn't, so we reduced the entry from $45 to $40.  You Need a CMA License ($70 annually) to participate classes with the exception of Club youth classes (only club membership required $20pp/$25family) and UTV (no membership required).
When Do I race?
TIMES: 8am-930am SIGN-IN - 8am-1030am TECH INSPECTION - 10am-1045am- PRACTICE - 11am RACING BEGINS

There is a race order that is handed out at the gate before you even get to the race site, this order is your race bible, it may change before the race due the lack of riders or too many riders, BE AT THE RIDERS MEETING!!!
YOU MUST PASS TECH INSPECTION TO BE ALLOWED TO  RACE!
There is 1 grace race, any race afterwards is a strict No Tech, No Race rule in place!
