We hope you have been enjoying your Alberta summer! Even with all the rain, its been a busy year for ABProjects and volunteers all over Alberta.
 
We would like to take this time to request volunteers for an exciting project in Waiparous. We hope you can spare a day or two, or even both to come out!
  
 
15 Volunteers are needed each day for the final stages of the Meadow Creek Bridge install.
 
 
DATE: September 13 and 14 2008
MEETING TIME: 8:45AM
**DEPARTURE TIME TO PROJECT SITE: 9:15AM sharp
MEETING LOCATION: Ghost Air Strip

Volunteers will be required to assist with packing and raking the ground, drilling, cutting and assembling the bridge and decking, installing decking and completing the finishing touches around abutments.
The remaining portions of the old bridge will also need to be cut and transported back to the MS camp, trucks will be required for this.
 
** There will be heavy duty machinery on site, so please do not bring children or pets.
If you do, please keep them safely away from the project site.
Also, please keep vehicles away from work site to allow proper work space for the machinery.
 
If you have any of the following, please bring them:
 
  • Drills for screwing decking
  • Chain saw and gear
  • Shovels
  • Generator
  • Gas or diesel tamper for compacting dirt
  • A skill saw (circular saw) will be needed for cutting wood.
  • Cutting torch.
  • Electric Impact gun.
  • Socket sets up to 1 ¼" and wrench sets up to the.
  • Satellite phone or radio
  • First Aid kit
     
     
    Special requests:
     
    If you or someone you know is willing to come out with either of the following, please let us know.
    Trucks with dump trailers.
    Diesel or gas powered welding unit on a trailer or truck.
     
     
    Please bring all PPE: Safety glasses, steel toed work boots, gloves (leather), rubber boots, chain saw gear, hearing protection.
     
    Please bring lunch, water, warm clothes and rain gear for yourself.

    We would like to update users on the progress of the Bow Region Stewardship Society. Just this last week Executive were informed of the approval for a $7500 grant from the ASN! Executive and Directors will be meeting in the near future and ABProjects will keep you informed!

    Also, approx. 20 ATV bridges have been fabricated and will be ready for install this summer.

    Correction to the last Update: the amount of materials SRD has provided to volunteer efforts has a current total of $20,000 not $15,000!

    We will require volunteers for this years projects, so please put aside some time and come out! Visit www.ABProjects.org weekly for updates!

    We require approximately 20+ volunteers to clear up the remaining portion of trail to complete the Camp Chamisol Project. 
    There is approximatly 100 yards remaining to clear.

    Camp Chamisol - Ghost/Waiparous
     
    20 volunteers are needed to complete clearing the right of way around Camp
    Chamisol.
     
    *Most of the wood needs to be cut and burnt on site for this final stage of
    the project!* *Please bring your chainsaws and gear for this work day!*
     
    Approximatly 90% of the project is complete already.
     
    NOTE: Hard hats, steel toe boots, safety glasses and chaps must be worn!!
     
    ATV's and 4WD's will be needed to haul materials out of the project site and
    to the MS Camp.

    It seems our volunteers for the Camp Chamisol Project just cant get enough!

    Two more work days are scheduled for December!

    • Safety glasses

    • Hard hat

    • Steel toe boots

    • Lunch

    • Warm clothes

    • And some holiday cheer!

      We are still looking for volunteers to complete this project! A few trucks and quads are needed to pull trees out and the rest is up to the muscle!

    Due to the Christmas season - maybe even the cold weather ;) - volunteer
    Project Coordinators have decided to postpone any projects for the month of
    December! They will begin completion of the Camp Chamisol project sometime
    in January, weather pending!

    2 - 4 trucks are required to skid out the trees and at least 6 volunteers
    are needed.
     
    This project is moving along pretty fast - but we need more volunteers as
    the weather will only get colder!
    The sooner this project gets completed, the sooner a new road will be built
    and access granted!


    Approval has been given to begin clearing the right of way around Camp Chamisol.
    Volunteers are needed to clear approx 1KM X 8m of road.
    Most trees are no more then 6inches in diameter and will have to be hauled out.
    Spray Lakes has waived their right to the salvage so the posts and rails can be used in future projects.
    Tops and limbs can be burned on site depending on ground conditions.
    The stumps will be used for controlling traffic on the other trails in the area.

    NOTE: Hard hats, steel toe boots, safety glasses and chaps must be worn!!


    ATV's and trucks will be needed to haul materials out of the project site and to the MS Camp.

    What to bring: Lunch, water, work gloves, warm clothing and chainsaw

    START DATE: November 10th 2007 (Project will span over a few weekends until complete)

    PROJECT UPDATE:
    • November 24th
      5 volunteers came out for the day to clear out approx. 300
      feet of road.
    • November 18-20th
      Second, third and fourth work days are complete.
      Approx 800 feet of new road
      has been cut. Some is still waiting
      to be cleared from the road.
    • November 10th
      The first day of this project has been completed. Approx 300 feet of road
      has been cleared.
